Luke Skywalker from “Star Wars” vs. Doug from “Blue Diamond”
Doug from “Blue Diamond” and Luke Skywalker from “Star Wars” are both stories that classify as a hero’s journey. Doug’s story was a lot a like Luke Skywalker’s journey in some ways, but in other ways, it was a lot different. For example, they both saved someone’s life. Doug saved Quinn from committing suicide. “Blanco Bronco,” I remind him, “You gotta hang around to hear their new album next month. Promise me that much.” Luke saved Princess Leah from being prosecuted on the Death Star. Also, both Doug and Luke denied their call to be a hero when they were first given the chance. When Quinn first tried to get Doug to travel with him to Las Vegas, Doug replied, “No, Quinn, you’re not going to do this! It’s crazy, even for you.” When Obi Wan Kanobi told Luke that Luke must go seek revenge, Luke also replied that he would not go. In the end, they both ended up going and fulfilling their hero’s journeys. Doug and Luke also had differences in their journey’s. The biggest difference was the settings of the two stories. Doug’s story setting was in modern day in the United States. “Where down the road?” says Doug. “Las Vegas” replied Quinn. Luke’s setting was far, far, away and on a whole different galaxy. That one difference makes these stories sound completely different and unrelated in many ways. They have completely different vibes. In conclusion, I enjoyed both of these stories and their similarities of being hero’s journeys and also their differences with completely opposite settings.
